Medical Dermatology - Early Detection. Expert Care. Peace of Mind.
Your skin tells a story — and at On the Spot Dermatology, we’re here to make sure it’s a healthy one. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, and when caught early, it’s highly treatable. That’s why we emphasize prevention, thorough evaluations, and expert care for suspicious lesions, sun damage, and irregular moles.
Whether it’s a spot you’ve had for years or something new that just doesn’t look right, our team takes every concern seriously. We offer prompt skin assessments, in-office biopsies, and treatment recommendations tailored to your needs.
You should schedule a skin cancer screening if:
At On the Spot Dermatology, your skin health is our priority. We offer:
We also collaborate with dermatopathologists to ensure your biopsy results are interpreted with precision and care.
We evaluate and manage a wide range of both benign and malignant conditions, including:
Actinic keratoses are rough, scaly patches or spots that develop on sun-exposed skin, such as the face, scalp, ears, neck, and hands. Caused by cumulative UV damage over time, these lesions are considered precancerous, meaning they have the potential to develop into squamous cell carcinoma if left untreated. They may be red, pink, or flesh-colored and can feel dry or sandpapery. Treatment is quick and effective, often performed with cryotherapy during an in-office visit.
Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer and typically develops on sun-exposed areas like the nose, ears, or scalp. It often appears as a shiny bump, flat scar-like area, or a sore that bleeds and doesn’t heal. Although BCC grows slowly and rarely spreads to other parts of the body, it can cause significant local damage if left untreated. Treatment may include excision, electrodessication, or referral for Mohs surgery, depending on location and depth.
Melanoma is a serious and potentially life-threatening skin cancer that can develop in an existing mole or arise as a new dark spot. It often shows up as an asymmetrical lesion with irregular borders, multiple colors, and rapid growth. Early detection is crucial, as melanoma can quickly spread to other parts of the body. We perform careful mole assessments and biopsies when necessary and refer for specialized treatment when appropriate.
A dysplastic nevus is a mole that looks abnormal under the microscope but is not cancer. These moles often have irregular shapes, uneven coloring, and blurry borders, and may resemble melanoma in appearance. Having multiple atypical nevi can increase your risk of developing skin cancer. That’s why we monitor them closely and may biopsy or remove them if they show concerning changes over time.
Moles, or nevi, are common and usually harmless—but certain changes in size, shape, or color can signal a potential concern. We provide routine skin checks to monitor your moles over time, using the ABCDE rule (Asymmetry, Border, Color, Diameter, Evolving) to identify any signs that may require a biopsy. Our goal is to give you peace of mind and catch issues early if they arise.
Not sure what that new spot is? We offer comprehensive lesion evaluations to assess bumps, spots, growths, or skin changes of any kind. Whether it’s itchy, painful, bleeding, or just concerning in appearance, we’ll examine it carefully, explain what it could be, and determine if treatment or further testing is needed. Many lesions can be treated the same day if benign, while suspicious ones can be biopsied for pathology.
