Deeper Insight for Better Skin Health
What Is a Punch Biopsy?
A punch biopsy is a diagnostic dermatologic procedure that removes a small, circular sample of skin using a specialized, pen-like tool. Unlike a shave biopsy, a punch biopsy takes a full-thickness sample — including the epidermis, dermis, and superficial fat — making it ideal for evaluating deeper or more complex skin conditions.
Performed in-office with local anesthesia, this quick procedure gives our team critical insight into rashes, pigmented lesions, moles, and other skin abnormalities so we can create the most effective treatment plan for you.
The entire procedure takes just a few minutes and is well-tolerated.
We’ll follow up with pathology results and next steps if needed.
If you have a skin concern that involves a deeper or unclear diagnosis — such as a persistent rash, changing mole, or complex lesion — a punch biopsy allows for precise evaluation. This proactive step helps ensure we catch conditions early and treat them effectively.
